Giorgio RUSSO

Adjunct Professor

Giorgio Russo is a Senior Researcher at the National Research Council (CNR) – Institute of Bioimages and Complex Biological Systems (IBSBC), at the Cefalù Secondary Site, which he has been heading since May 2018. He has a background as a specialist in medical physics and as a third-level radiation protection expert. Since March 2025, he has been appointed by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) as the Italian expert for the EURATOM program on fission and fusion within the European Framework Program for Research and Innovation.

He has been an associate researcher at the Southern National Laboratories of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (LNS – INFN) since 2002; adjunct professor at the University of Palermo since the academic year 2008/09 and at the University of Catania since the academic year 2018/19. He has led international and national research projects, coordinating the CNR unit as activity leader, particularly in the following projects:

  • The Breast Integrated Solution (BIS): Technological innovation to support integrated diagnosis and personalized treatment of breast cancer, funded by PR FESR 2021/2027. Funded amount: €525,645.69

All projects share a common approach: multidisciplinary integration and the use of image processing techniques to combine information obtained with biological and/or clinical data.

He is the author of 187 publications in international journals, with 12,018 citations and an H-Index of 32, according to Web of Science.
