Digital Libraries on the Grid to preserve cultural heritage with gLibrary
Description
Data Grids offer redundant and huge distributed storage capabilities, providing an ideal and secure place for the long-term preservation of digitalised literary works and documents of artistic and historical relevance.Grid authentication and authorization mechanisms allow a fine-grained access to archives by single users, groups or entire communities. Moreover, metadata services permit a structured organization of scans for quick searches. In this presentation, a grid-based system to host and manage digital libraries developed by INFN Catania, named gLibrary, will be showed, with details on the architecture of the system and its implementation. A use case has been recently implemented in collaboration with some researchers of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy: the manuscript repository of the italian writer Federico De Roberto has been deployed on the COMETA grid infrastructure with the gLibrary platform.
