Gabriele Parisi

Hello, Gabriele here! I am a PhD student in Theoretical Physics at DFA UniCT. I just came back from a 5 week period spent between August and September 2024 in the USA, so I thought I might tell you a bit about that!

I work in the field of Heavy Ion Collisions, for which very large and powerful particle accelerators are needed: one of the most powerful of those is located in the Brookhaven National Laboratories (New York, USA). A physicist working in those laboratories visited our department and gave a Colloquium, and since I was very interested in the topic he wanted to invite me for a short research period abroad. My answer? Why not!!

It is amazing to actually see the facility whose experimental data are the ones you deal with every day. Spending some time there makes you realize how universal scientific research really is: the struggle to find results, the relief when you are actually able to come up with new things are really the same for every physicist in the world! The challenge? Do all of this in a completely new environment, both scary and amazing.
